About
The Government in the Budget Speech 2017 had proposed to leverage Information Technology and launch the SWAYAM platform with at least 350 online courses. Subsequently the Hon’ble President of India launched SWAYAM on 9 th July, 2017, an indigenous platform of the GOI designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. SWAYAM is a path-breaking initiative of the government aimed at providing quality education to large number of students pursuing higher education in our Universities and Colleges. The MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) courses on SWAYAM enable students to virtually attend the courses taught by the best faculty; access high quality reading resources; participate in discussion forums; take tests and earn academic grades. It is aimed at benefitting lifelong learners, students, teachers, researchers to use multimedia on anytime, anywhere basis for acquiring knowledge and skills. UGC feels that Universities can play a pivotal role in disseminating and popularising the SWAYAM courses amongst its students in particular and the academic fraternity at large, thereby enabling a bigger and wider access to students avail the benefit of MOOCs. To take the SWAYAM initiative forward and encourage more and more HEIs to adopt the MOOCs courses on SWAYAM, the university nominated SWAYAM coordinators would act as a Single Point of Contact( SPOC) for their university. This orientation workshop is being organised by UGC to sensitize and train these coordinators on the roles and responsibilities of the University and its SWAYAM Coordinators.
